Expressions in Wood ~ Unique, handcrafted wood gifts that tell a story

Due to a family emergency, I will be out of the office for an extended period of time.  If you are not in a hurry, you can still place an order, but it might be a few weeks before your order ships.  Thank you very much for your patience.

Unique handcrafted wood gifts that tell a story

Gerry...the artist...at a craft fair booth

A unique story behind each wood gift we create

This is an interesting box. I tried to make the most difficult thing I could think of, so I created a perfectly round box. The lid comes off and it's actually quite neat.

Each piece that we create tells a story. Here you will find wonderfully unique handcrafted wood gifts that are beautiful and great conversation starters! My wood is usually "FOG" wood (found on the ground) or wood that has already been cut down. I search for the most intricate and unusual pieces of wood I can find. I use pieces of wood from the beaches of California, Hawaii and Oregon and from my travels around the United States, as well as some elegant wood from specialty wood shops. Some of my wood has been rescued from a shredder in our home town of Lompoc, California. While other pieces are scavenged and whisked away from wood piles. My goal is to breathe new life into a piece of wood and bring out its inner beauty.

The Wood's Story Comes Alive

With each of my unique wooden gifts you purchase, you will receive a post card that has the type of wood, the history of the particular piece of wood used to create your wood gift as well as some general information about the wood itself. There are some very interesting wood stories to be told. On the back of the postcard is the interesting story about the artist behind Expressions in Wood, Gerry Davis...me.

Custom Handcrafted Wood Gifts

Custom wood gift orders are always welcome. If there is a specific wood you'd like me to use for a project, just let me know. My hand-turned wood gifts are each unique because no two come out exactly alike. However, if there is a design on our site that you adore and want multiple "copies" let me know. We can make multiple pieces out of the same wood, just know that each will have its own grain, character and life story. Just drop me a note and let me know what you are interested in. Depending on the request, custom orders can take anywhere from 1 - 4 weeks to create. I always work in a timely, manner but sometimes custom orders take a bit longer than regular orders. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Types of Wood I Use for My Unique Wood Gifts

I use a variety of woods as we happen upon them including Cherry Wood, Oak, Italian Poplar Burl, Maple, Ebony, Georgia Cherry, Alder, Magnolia, Granadilla, African Padauk, Mahogany, Pine, Purple Heart, Dragon Eye, Olive Wood, Western Maple Burl, Koa, Ash, Chinese Elm, Osage Orange, Pepperwood, Baltic Birch, Bacota, Walnut, Eastern & Curly Maple, Alder, Carob and many other types of wood as I find them.

I am slowly working on informational pages for each of the woods I use. Check back soon if you're interested in the wood properties and information.
